For four days, Eric Wiegardt regaled 19 workshop participants with news stories from the small town in Washington state where he grew up, how he gave up a career in business and became an artist, and, of course, how he paints watercolors. The participants learned that an extra scoop of the brush into the water supply after the brush is loaded with pigment is key to obtaining the effects he achieves with bright colors and the merging of shapes, “free and easy” as he calls it. Eric had us paint a half sheet with only 50 strictly-counted brush strokes. This was a great exercise and made us be more thoughtful about our brushstrokes. It was an excellent workshop.
