SUMMARY:Life Drawing and Painting session
DESCRIPTION:Here are the dates in February and March:Here are the dates in February and March: \nSunday\, February   9\, 1pm – 3:30pm\,   with model and with instruction by Adam Adkison\nSunday\, February 23\, 1pm – 3:30pm\,   with model – no instruction \nSunday\, March 8\,        1pm – 3:30pm\,   with model and with instruction by Daniel Panero\nSunday\, March 22\,      1pm – 3:30pm\,   with model – no instruction \nEach Sunday is an independent session — this is not a class and does not build directly on the previous session(s). You can come to none\, one or each session. We are offering them to our members to practice drawing/painting the human figure from a variety of angles. \nUsually we start with some short warm-up sketching to get a feel for the proportions.  It’s good to bring some not-important paper like the backside of a not-so-good painting. Everyone brings their own drawing and painting materials. It is good to arrive a few minutes early to set up your painting station and so that we can start on time. \nAfter a few short poses the model holds longer poses\, 15-20 minutes\, so everyone can work on more details or shading in those longer poses\, or does a quick sketch in pencil on watercolor paper and add watercolor. It is up to each member either to draw the whole time\, to draw and later paint or paint the whole time – you are in charge of your time and painting. \nWe meet at the New Art Center from 1pm to 3:30pm; there will be beverages and snacks offered in the breaks. The cost for each session for members is only $10. Large tables are available to share with another artist\, but you can also bring your own easel as the room is large. The room is well heated and there are plenty of parking spots available.

SUMMARY:Eudes Correia In-Person Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Eudes Correia\n\nSeptember 10 – 13\, 2019          4-day workshop\n\nThis was a very successful workshop by any standards! Eudes Correia dazzled us with spot-on watercolor painting demos of portraits and figures caught in their daily life and painted with such an amazing repertoire of all the details in the faces and at the same time with such wild and loose expressions of the whole painting!\n\nHe also took the time to teach us his little painting secrets and we could observe how much fun he had to explore new territory – yet the outcome was always perfect!  It is rare to see in workshops that all the artist’s paintings work out and are fabulous – but he pulled it off!\n\nWe were very pleased having had Eudes Correia here in Newton for his first US workshop and we have lot of requests by the workshop participants to bring him back soon.

DESCRIPTION:T U R N E R  E X H I B I Tin Mystic\, Connecticut!\nJoin Gitty on a daytrip to see the fabulous William Turner (1775 -1851) exhibit in Mystic\, CT – the only place in the US where this special collection of 97 paintings will be exhibited. The exhibition spans the entirety of Turner’s long career and is focusing on his watercolors. This exhibition is organized in cooperation with the Tate Gallery in London. SUMMARY:Iain Stewart In-Person Workshop
DESCRIPTION:What a fantastic workshop! We spend Day 2 and 3 in Boston in nice but very windy conditions and had great feedback with our selection process of zooming in on an interesting and manageable subject for our paintings. We sketched and painted\, while attempting to integrate the techniques that Iain had us practiced on the first day. On the final day everything gelled together in our studio paintings and we finished the workshop not only with a wonderful reception that Iain had juried\, but also with a fine group seafood dinner.

SUMMARY:Catherine Gill In-Person Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Cathe Gill taught a wonderful 3-day workshop this past November giving the participants an understanding of the different qualities of watercolor paints by separating them into the three basic colors categories of transparent\, opaque and stained paints.\n\nIt was fascinating to listen to her and observe her in the daily demos. Her very comfortable teaching style  and her humor expedited the understanding of the various interactions of those colors on our watercolor paper. DESCRIPTION:Participants experimented with a variety of tools to paint\, including brayers\, eye-droppers\, and sprayers\, and created paintings without brushes.\nThey explored a variety of removal techniques used in mono-printing\, discovered the patterns created by applying textured materials such as sponges\, Kleenex\, lace\, and corrugated cardboard to both dry an wet paint.

SUMMARY:Lian Quan Zhen In-Person Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Our “Color Pouring and Blending” workshop with Lian Quan Zhen was impressive because of his techniques and teaching ability. He had us mask out the yellow pedals of a sun flower and then spray the paper adding the 3 primary colors\, mixing with his finger or blowing the colors or using a brush. Then we went in to define the flowers and leaves. His second project was a landscape with rocks and running water. Again we masked areas before spraying the paper and adding colors.

DESCRIPTION:April 7+8\, 2017          2-day workshop\n\nThis Spring we enjoyed a really outstanding workshop with Wendy Artin here in Newton. It was a very interactive workshop\, where short demos alternated with participant exercises throughout two days. Each day we honed our figure painting skills by focusing on the shaded body surfaces of each of the models. During the daily still life portion\, we practiced painting vegetables with a wet-on-wet/take-off technique on white Canson Mi-Teintes paper – what a perfect combination! SUMMARY:Eric Wiegardt In-Person Workshop
DESCRIPTION:July 13 -16\, 2015     4-day workshop\n \nFor four days\, Eric Wiegardt regaled 19 workshop participants with news stories from the small town in Washington state where he grew up\, how he gave up a career in business and became an artist\, and\, of course\, how he paints watercolors. The participants learned that  an extra scoop of the brush into the water supply after the brush is loaded with pigment is key to obtaining the effects he achieves with bright colors and the merging of shapes\, “free and easy” as he calls it. Eric had us paint a half sheet with only 50 strictly-counted brush strokes. DESCRIPTION:Paul Alie introduced us to his way of using photo\nediting software.  Though he used Photoshop Elements  he\nexplained that most editing software programs include the\nfunctions he demonstrated.  He showed us how he composes\na painting by combining photos\, adjusting size\, position\,\nshading and color as well as a couple of “filters” that helps\nsimplify images by reducing confusing detail.  He also uses\nthe software to preplan changes or additions to paintings in\nprogress\, trying various adjustments on the computer before\ndeciding which ones to apply to the work.   Paul explained\nthat he often paints several versions of a composition until he\nis satisfied.   \nAfter demonstrating the use of the software he painted a\nversion of one of his works in progress\, using wet in wet\, dry\nbrush and negative painting techniques.  Thank you Paul!\nwww.aliestudio.com

DESCRIPTION:Karen Keough is an award winning painter\, specializing in watercolors\, for over 40 years. Currently\, she paints and runs her own art licensing business in Ipswich\, MA.  ​Her introduction to watercolors came when her Mother brought her to Wingaersheek Beach in Gloucester\, during a snowstorm to paint on the beach!  They dropped paint onto their paper and let the falling snowflakes design their paintings! This is when Karen learned to trust that the painting will tell you what it wants to be! Karen paints very loosely and enjoys the process as it develops! \nHer inspirations comes from the ocean and florals. She has studied with many teachers in Rockport\, Gloucester\, Lynnfield\, and Naples\, Florida. She has won numerous awards for her seascapes and boats. She teaches a watercolor course every fall at the Vocational School in Wakefield\, Massachusetts.
