SUMMARY:Online Workshop: The Power of a Limited Palette with Brienne M Brown
DESCRIPTION:This is a 3 day workshop\, Monday\, Wednesday and Friday\, 3 hours per day\, November 15 + 17 + 19\, 2021\,  3:00pm – 6:00pm \nThe way to learn color confidence\, build a personalized palette\, and use the full power of color is to start simple and build as you gain experience. Painting with a limited palette is a great way to do this.  During this 3-Day Online Workshop\, Brienne will teach you the power of a limited palette\, explain some important color theory concepts\, and give you tips on color mixing with watercolor.  The workshop will be from 3:00 – 6:00 pm (Eastern Standard Time) on each day.  Brienne will give instruction and demonstrations about using a limited palette of colors.  She will then assign independent work for you to turn-in after the first and second workshop days.  Brienne will conduct group critiques online for feedback and then end the workshop with more demonstrations and answer any questions students have. \nThis course is meant for the serious beginner to intermediate artist.  Participants should have a good grasp on how to use watercolor\, basic drawing skills\, and a good understanding of values.  The focus of this course is understanding color and how to use it to your advantage as a watercolor artist. \nAll LIVE Zoom Sessions will be recorded and up for you to review by the end of each meeting day.  This will give you time to review anything you might have missed for whatever reason.  Also\, you will get access to watch these videos for 30-days after the end of the workshop. \n$220 for the members and $270 for non-members. The workshop is limited to 16 participants. \nPlease sign up HERE. \n

SUMMARY:Plein Air On Location - Wayside Inn and Gristmill in Sudbury
DESCRIPTION:Plein Aire at Longfellow’s Wayside Inn\, 72 Wayside Inn Rd\, Sudbury\, MA \nThursday October 14th\, 11 AM – 1:30. \nPark in the dirt lot directly across from the Inn\, to the left of the red barn.   \nWe will meet just outside the Inn’s front door. \nThere is a bathroom at the back of the Inn. \nThe Wayside Inn is a lovely and historic complex spread out over several acres. There is the Inn itself dating back to the 1700s which is open to the public (fun period rooms upstairs and restaurant downstairs)\, a small formal garden to the right of the Inn and a pond in behind. A short (3 minute) walk away is the much photographed Grist Mill and a larger picturesque pond (in behind)\, the little red school house and the Martha Mary chapel\, a white steepled little church straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting.  You can walk to the Mill site\, or drive and park.  \nDirections: Take Route 20 to Wayside Inn Road\, which is marked by green signs in both directions. Coming from the West you will use the jug handle at the traffic light to make a left onto Wayside Inn Road. Then you will pass the Grist Mill and Chapel first and the Inn parking lot is further down on the right. Coming from the East you will see Wayside Inn Road fork off to the right and you will see the Inn first\, parking lot on your left.

SUMMARY:Plein Air On Location (Thursday!) - Codman Estate with Cathy Manwaring
DESCRIPTION:Plein Aire at the Codman Estate\, 34 Codman Rd\, Lincoln MA – “The Grange” \nThursday September 23rd\, 10 AM – 12:30 \nHosted by Cathy Manwaring. \nPlease text me by the night before so I know you are coming. \nPark at the Estate (the entrance nearer to Rt 126\, lot on the left) not further down the road at the Farm. Entrance is marked by a small hanging sign. I will have my phone on so call as needed. \nWe will meet in the parking lot. There is a bathroom at the Community Farm barn/store (just inside\, second door on the left). Vegetables\, eggs etc. are for sale in the barn – quite a nice little farm store. Store can be reached via dirt road from Estate\, a lovely short walk. Folks can also paint at the Farm if they prefer. At the two-hour mark we will reconvene to share our work. Bring a picnic lunch if you are so inclined. \nThe Codman Estate never fails to please. There is a turn of the century Italian garden behind the 1740s mansion with a gazing pond filled with lily pads and frogs\, plus statuary and lovely plantings. Further down from the mansion there is a carriage house with a fenced in rose arbor garden (c. 1930s) in behind and acres of walled fields in front. There are tree lined paths and a short walk away (5 minutes) a working farm with lovely old white barns\, chickens\, pigs and a thriving farm store. If you are lucky the big brown bulls will be out in the fields\, and behind the estate there is a large pen with llamas. Something for everyone! \nDIRECTIONS\nFrom Route I-95/Route 128\, take Route 2 West 4.5 miles to Route 126 East past Walden Pond. Take the third left on Codman Road. Codman Estate is 0.5 miles on the left. \nFrom the East I prefer coming in along Rt. 117 and turning right onto Rt. 126 at the lights\, then right again onto Codman road at the small triangle. Estate entrance is a half mile or so down on your left\, marked in red below.

SUMMARY:Presentation by Jason Skill: "Bright Sunlight - the Sargent Way"
DESCRIPTION:‘ Bright sunlight – the Sargent way’ \n\nThis Zoom demonstration from the British watercolor  artist and teacher Jason Skill\, is a must for any fans of John Singer Sargent.  Thought by many to be one of the greatest watercolour painters in history\, Sargent  is famous for his ability to captured the look and feel of bright sunlight in spontaneous\, vigorous artworks.  Notoriously difficult to imitate\, Sargents methods have proved  baffling to most watercolourists… until now.  Jason\, believes he has unlocked the core approaches to colour and paint used by the master\,  which he will be sharing with you at this session.  The demonstration will focus of the creation of a painting\, made in the Sargent style\, while Jason explains \,stage by stage\, the reasoning behind his methods which are based on years of study and extensive experimentation. This promises to be an eye opening  event.

SUMMARY:Creative Journey by Painting in Series
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, you will come to understand the elements of design (line\, size\, shape\, color\, value\, texture) and composition through painting in series.  Painting the same subject for the duration of this workshop and taking the challenges each week will force you out of your comfort zone into making a personal statement with your artwork. \nEach class will consist of two parts: a lecture on the elements of design or a watercolor technique and a friendly critique. After a few paintings\, a familiarity with the subject develops and the artist is able to look beyond it and explore the design elements. You will be encouraged to experiment with different papers such as Yupo paper\, and different techniques such as under-paintings\, collages and pouring. \nDetails:\n● 10 Wednesday 7pm – 9pm\, starting January 13\, 2021\n● No class on 2/17/2021\n● Last class Wednesday March 24\, 2021\n● Online class with Zoom\n● Workshop Fee: $100 per person; Limited to 20-25 participants; accepted in sequence of sign up; sign-up only by snail mail including application and check \nOutline:\n● First day is a 30 minute lecture followed by everyone doing value sketches. For critique\, we will look at everyone’s value sketches. You will choose your subject that you will paint for the remainder of the class.\n● Homework for each week is to do a minimum of two paintings. Recommended size is not smaller than 1/2 sheet\n● 2nd to 9th day is critique of paintings done at home followed by a lecture that sets the direction for next week’s paintings\n● In the interest of time\, one can send photos of their paintings ahead of time for the critique\n● 10th day is a look at everyone’s full set of paintings to see the journey from day 1 through 10. This is an exciting day! \nThe Workshop is offered to member only. \nPlease click Online Application to apply \nor \nDownload the form and follow the form instruction to apply. \n  \nDownload the material list here.

SUMMARY:Painting Waterscapes: Sparkle and Shine
DESCRIPTION:Host: Nancy DuVergne Smith \nWater is a tantalizing subject for artists. We are drawn intuitively to bodies of water\, yet it is an elusive substance\, at times transparent\, translucent\, reflective\, or fractured. We’ll examine various water surfaces and then pay particular attention to the characteristics of calm\, undulating bodies of water and the sparkles of light reflected from streams. \nFor more\, visit Nancy’s website.
