SUMMARY:WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP with Jean-François Arnaud
DESCRIPTION:WHEN: October 23rd\, 24th\, and 25th 2026 (Three-day workshop) \n\n\n\nTIME: 9:30am to 4:30pm \n\n\n\nHOSTED BY: Newton Watercolor Society \n\n\n\nLOCATION: Artisan’s Asylum\, 96 Holton St\, Boston MA 02135 \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: \n\n\n\n Newton Watercolor Society is excited to share that an incredibly talented and experienced artist will be teaching our upcoming workshop in October!   \n\n\n\n Jean-François Arnaud is someone who has spent years honing his craft and has inspired artists at every level. Arnaud brings not just amazing technical skill\, but a genuine passion for art and a wealth of creative knowledge that he is eager to share with all of us. Whether you are just starting out or have been creating for years\, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn\, grow\, and get inspired alongside a truly gifted artist.  \n\n\n\n Jean-François has developed a simplified yet expressive approach to watercolor that is both intuitive and highly effective. Built around a strong composition and a limited palette of just four primary colors—Royal blue\, Cadmium yellow\, Cadmium red\, and Indigo—his method makes color mixing easier to understand while promoting greater color harmony. Inspired by his background in printing\, this streamlined palette demonstrates that with only four colors\, you can create nearly any subject in watercolor. \n\n\n\nWe are offering a three day in-person workshop\, October 23rd- 25th\, from 9:30am- 4:30pm\, with a one-hour break for lunch. This will take place at the Artisan’s Asylum\, located at 96 Holton Street\, Boston MA 02135. We wholeheartedly encourage you to join this workshop – it has the potential to transform the way you see\, understand and use pigments in your painting.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nFEE FOR THIS 3-DAY WORKSHOP IS: \n\n\n\nMembers: $400 \n\n\n\nNon-Members: $450 \n\n\n\nPlease register here: \n\n\n\n[ \n\n\n\n\n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Address \n \n \n \n Street Address\n \n \n Address Line 2\n \n \n City\n \n \n State / Province / Region\n \n \n ZIP / Postal Code\n \n AfghanistanAlbaniaAlgeriaAmerican SamoaAndorraAngolaAnguillaAntarcticaAntigua and BarbudaArgentinaArmeniaArubaAustraliaAustriaAzerbaijanBahamasBahrainBangladeshBarbadosBelarusBelgiumBelizeBeninBermudaBhutanBoliviaBonaire\, Sint Eustatius and SabaBosnia and HerzegovinaBotswanaBouvet IslandBrazilBritish Indian Ocean TerritoryBrunei DarussalamBulgariaBurkina FasoBurundiCabo VerdeCambodiaCameroonCanadaCayman IslandsCentral African RepublicChadChileChinaChristmas IslandCocos IslandsColombiaComorosCongoCongo\, Democratic Republic of theCook IslandsCosta RicaCroatiaCubaCuraçaoCyprusCzechiaCôte d'IvoireDenmarkDjiboutiDominicaDominican RepublicEcuadorEgyptEl SalvadorEquatorial GuineaEritreaEstoniaEswatiniEthiopiaFalkland IslandsFaroe IslandsFijiFinlandFranceFrench GuianaFrench PolynesiaFrench Southern TerritoriesGabonGambiaGeorgiaGermanyGhanaGibraltarGreeceGreenlandGrenadaGuadeloupeGuamGuatemalaGuernseyGuineaGuinea-BissauGuyanaHaitiHeard Island and McDonald IslandsHoly SeeHondurasHong KongHungaryIcelandIndiaIndonesiaIranIraqIrelandIsle of ManIsraelItalyJamaicaJapanJerseyJordanKazakhstanKenyaKiribatiKorea\, Democratic People's Republic ofKorea\, Republic ofKuwaitKyrgyzstanLao People's Democratic RepublicLatviaLebanonLesothoLiberiaLibyaLiechtensteinLithuaniaLuxembourgMacaoMadagascarMalawiMalaysiaMaldivesMaliMaltaMarshall IslandsMartiniqueMauritaniaMauritiusMayotteMexicoMicronesiaMoldovaMonacoMongoliaMontenegroMontserratMoroccoMozambiqueMyanmarNamibiaNauruNepalNetherlandsNew CaledoniaNew ZealandNicaraguaNigerNigeriaNiueNorfolk IslandNorth MacedoniaNorthern Mariana IslandsNorwayOmanPakistanPalauPalestine\, State ofPanamaPapua New GuineaParaguayPeruPhilippinesPitcairnPolandPortugalPuerto RicoQatarRomaniaRussian FederationRwandaRéunionSaint BarthélemySaint Helena\, Ascension and Tristan da CunhaSaint Kitts and NevisSaint LuciaSaint MartinSaint Pierre and MiquelonSaint Vincent and the GrenadinesSamoaSan MarinoSao Tome and PrincipeSaudi ArabiaSenegalSerbiaSeychellesSierra LeoneSingaporeSint MaartenSlovakiaSloveniaSolomon IslandsSomaliaSouth AfricaSouth Georgia and the South Sandwich IslandsSouth SudanSpainSri LankaSudanSurinameSvalbard and Jan MayenSwedenSwitzerlandSyria Arab RepublicTaiwanTajikistanTanzania\, the United Republic ofThailandTimor-LesteTogoTokelauTongaTrinidad and TobagoTunisiaTurkmenistanTurks and Caicos IslandsTuvaluTürkiyeUS Minor Outlying IslandsUgandaUkraineUnited Arab EmiratesUnited KingdomUnited StatesUruguayUzbekistanVanuatuVenezuelaViet NamVirgin Islands\, BritishVirgin Islands\, U.S.Wallis and FutunaWestern SaharaYemenZambiaZimbabweÅland Islands\n Country\n \n \n PhoneEmail(Required)\n \n Jean-François Arnaud In-Person Workshop(Required)\n \n \n $400 NWS Member: $400.00\n \n \n \n $450 Non member: $450.00\n Cancellation\, Refund and Change Policy(Required)\n \n I have read the Newton Watercolor Society Cancellation\, Refund and Change policy below\n \nFor cancellations received in writing 6 weeks before the scheduled workshop\, a $100 cancellation fee will be applied against your deposit. SUMMARY:Life Drawing and Painting
DESCRIPTION:The Live Studio Classes with Model Session is led by Daniel Panero Bertucci on Saturday \nStarts from 1:30 – 4:00pm  \nHere are the Saturday dates from January to May: \n\nSaturday January 31\nSaturday February 21 and 28\nSaturday March 21 and 28\nSaturday April 18\nSaturday May 9\n\nDonation for each session: $20\nEach Saturday is an independent session — this is not a class and does not build directly on the previous session(s). You can come to none\, one or each session. We are offering them to our members to practice drawing/painting the human figure from a variety of angles. \nUsually\, we start with some short warm-up sketching to get a feel for the proportions.  It’s good to bring some not-important paper like the backside of a not-so-good painting. Everyone brings their own drawing and painting materials. It is good to arrive a few minutes early to set up your painting station and so that we can start on time. \nAfter a few short poses the model holds longer poses\, 15-20 minutes\, so everyone can work on more details or shading in those longer poses or does a quick sketch in pencil on watercolor paper and add watercolor. It is up to each member either to draw the whole time\, to draw and later paint or paint the whole time – you are in charge of your time and painting. \nThere will be beverages and snacks offered in the breaks.  Large tables are available to share with another artist\, but you can also bring your own easel as the room is large. The room is well heated and there are plenty of parking spots available. \n

SUMMARY:Creative Journey by Painting in Series
DESCRIPTION:Painting in a Series\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPablo Picasso famously said\, “One cannot truly follow the creative process except through a series.”  And painting in a series is what he did\, as did Claude Monet (think Haystacks\, Lily Pads\, & Rouen Cathedral) and Japanese painter Hokusai (Mount Fuji paintings). \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are fortunate to have Chetana Keltcher\, who has taught this course three times after studying with the course’s originator\, Mike Bailey\, at the University of California\, Santa Cruz.  This is a class many of us have taken multiple times\, and we are pleased to announce that Chetana is willing to guide us through the class for another session. Here are the details: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPainting in a Series\n10 weeks\nWeekly except for holidays\nThursday nights zoom meeting starting in November\n\n\n  Nov 6\, 13\, 20\n\n  Dec 4\, 11\n  Jan 8\, 15\, 22\, 29\n  Feb 12 (final online show open to all members and guests)\n\n\nCost $100\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo register\, please click this LINK.

Painting with watercolors is one of his greatest delights and has now become an addiction for him\, too. He finds an ultimate bliss while painting and for him art is just like meditation. His art captures the very soul of his subjects with passion. \nHis exceptional drawing skills and extra ordinary abilities in art make him proficient in any medium. His subjects include compositional works like streets\, kitchens\, platforms and metropolitan cities where the lovely play of light\, shadow and perspective are the main traits. He has a passion for painting railway engines and platforms and has beautifully captured the hustle and bustle of the platforms and the smoke of the engines in his paintings. He has also travelled in the hilly areas of India and has done various series capturing them in their true essence. \nHe truly believes in the saying that\n“The Practice of Art isn’t to make a living but to make your soul grow”. \nTo register click https://newtonwatercolorsociety.org/amit_kapoor_workshop/ \nFor more information on Amit Kapoor\, go to https://www.amitkapoorwatercolor.com/

SUMMARY:Roberto Zangarelli In-Person Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Workshop with Roberto Zangarelli coming up on\nOctober 19th-22nd\, 2022.\n\n\n\nThe Shape of Water\nUnder this motto\, this famous Italian watercolorist creates vibrant city and marina scenes imbued with energy and emotional intensity.\n\nBalancing between the laws of academic painting and his own vision\, he creates unique\, dynamic watercolor paintings that often border on the abstract. “I like to capture the essence of things\, not to describe them”.\n\nThrough his visceral style he invites the viewer to interpret the art with their own emotional response.\n\nTo apply for the workshop\, click HERE.\nCheck out his website: www.RobertoZangarelli.com\n.

SUMMARY:Light and Shadow Show Reception
DESCRIPTION:Sunday June 5th at 1:00 p.m.\nPrizes will be awarded\nJudge: Tony Couch\nDear members\, please mark your calendar for June 5th\, 1pm- 2pm for a celebration of NWS Light and Shadow Show. After some unforeseen delay – i.e. Tony driving over his laptop\, we finally have the results! \nWe were fortunate to have Tony Couch as our judge. Tony is an exceptional artist and teacher and he judged all the paintings that were submitted. I don’t envy him as he had the difficult task to choose only three paintings out of 63 submitted by a very talented group of artists. We will be celebrating our winners at the reception. \nHowever\, to be recognized by one’s peers is a special honor. We are asking you to select 4 artists for honorable mentions. Please make your selection in the below LINK . \nThe four winners of Honorable Mentions will be announced at the reception. \nThanks so much for your participation in the show and look forward to seeing you on June 5th.

SUMMARY:In-person Workshop: Tony Couch
DESCRIPTION:New In-Person Workshop with luminary watercolor artist Tony Couch! \nAs this workshop was cancelled in March 2020 due to the Pandemic we are happy to announce that Tony is coming next May to Newton! Previously signed-up members have had the first chance to sign up again and now the sign-up for all of our NWS members is open. The location for the workshop is Newton and it will be a 3-day workshop\, May 5 – 7\, Thursday through Saturday\, 9:30am – 4:30pm. Please sign up HERE. \n \nThis will be an information packed workshop\, with Tony doing a full sheet demonstration painting each morning\, plenty of time for you to paint in the afternoon\, and a critique at the end of each day of all the work done that day.  He’ll unravel much of the “mystery” about design while he shows you how to make your paintings fresh and crisp – and he’ll make color much simpler for you\, too.  Many students have said they’ve learned more in one day at one of these workshops than in four years of art school! \n\nNo video cameras at the workshop\, please – but still cameras are OK.  \n\nEach workshop participant accepts full and complete responsibility for any risk associated with attendance and participation in this workshop and holds harmless the location provider and the Newton Watercolor Society from all liability\, claims\, losses\, and/or damages\n\n$425 for the members and $475 for non-members.\n\n
